The biggest overall project, including Eysturoyartunnilin and Sandoyartunnlin has now come to an end. Sandoyartunnlin was open for traffic 21. December 2023, 4 months ahead of schedule.
Eysturoyartunnlin was the first tunnel to be finnish, with a total length on 11.5km. This was the first tunnel in the world with a sub-sea roundabout. Eysturoyartunnlin was open for traffic 19. December 2020, 2 months ahead of schedule. This was during the Covid-19 which affected shipment of equipment, transport etc.
Sandoyartunnlin was the largest stand-alone project ever for El-Service.
El-Service provided all the technical and safety equipment for the tunnel, which also included the SCADA Safety Control System and the Control Systems for 5 pump stations as well.
